Pecking Order

Ok so for those of you who may not have ever heard of the 'pecking order' it's really a very simple concept. I was taught it in year 9 when I was struggling with some petty teasing and my english teacher pulled me aside to have a chat and to try and give me some confidence. She basically explained the pecking order. You see in the chicken world you have the head chook and the head chook is the highest in the pecking order. If the head chook wants something all they have to do is give a peck at any chicken that is in the way and by rules of the pecking order, that chook must step aside. Now obviously people are not so eagar to just step aside and become doormats and it can be very difficult when someone decides they are the head chook and that their every wish should occur the moment it leaves their lips.

So that is a little bit what some of my collegues at work are like, they say jump and you just start jumping then worry about the specifics as you go. The saddest part is that one particular lady is only just above me in the 'pecking order' but she is very bossy. Also I'm not the only person who thinks that she is bossy as she had a falling out with a caseworker today. very sad sort of stuff.

I'm learning not to let it bug me though. i just get on with my work and when she is being nosey and bossy, I pull all my strength together and only through the grace of God, manage a polite response. It's quite tricky being around people like that, but unless you are a confrontational type person, it's usually bes to just get on with the job.

So this is the challenge that I've set for myself. To work with these difficult people and show them just what the Spirit of God is all about and not get angry or annoyed in these situations. It's incredibly tough, especially after a long days work, but so worth it.

Its a good thing Gods grace always succeeds.. because my second option i would have suggested was as my year 11/12 English teacher would say "I'll pull out a lump of 2 be 4 and smack ya over the head!"

truly inspirational words from a teacher who was truly un-inspirational.
