Uni Adventures
Oh what fun I had today! Some of you may already know this, but today I went to uni. Not for any particular reason. I guess you could think of it more like a field trip. I went to two lectures and public meeting, and in between I walked all over the place getting coffee, playing video games, getting Italian hot chocolate and ate Thai.
But to be more specific... I woke up at 7am this morning and got ready for the day as if I was heading off to work. I left home at approx 7:48am and headed to Beecroft to park my car at Steve's house (made later tonight easier). On my way I passed an over-turned car just after Thornleigh station and there was no indication as to how such an event was made possible. Luckily it had little effect on traffic! I arrived at Steve's just after 8am and walked to the station from there. After not reading an sms from Bec properly (who I was meeting on the train along with Mike) I ran to catch a train that didn't arrive for another 10 mins.
The train ride in was amusing and quite fun, although I think us talking about old school days (last day of yr12 when the grade cross-dressed) may have disturbed some of the other passengers. There was also this man that smelt of McDonalds syrup like he'd had pancakes for breakfast and it made me hungry. What was even better though was at Redfern station, there was a small cafe with free samples out the front and they happened to bepancakes, so Mike and I partook and toasted our pancake bites before eating them. Very tasty start to my uni experience.
We then headed down a few small streets around a few corners until we reached Sydney University. We walked past the Engineering buildings and across a small road to a coffee place where I had a mocca and a carrot cake muffin thing for second breakfast as I'd only had a yoghurt previously. I managed to finish my cake before my coffee was ready which was quite handy. We then headed upstairs to a 'mess hall' type eating area which had video games all around and within it. We headed straight for this shooting game (you aim at targets etc not real people like some others and you move in stages and lose a life if you don't meet that stages requirements). Bec and I went first and although she got more points on most rounds, I still passed and ended up living for longer. Mike then played against me and although he won, we were not far off in our abilities. It was now time to wander towards the lecture halls.
Bec had a tutorial so I had the option of going to a scary computer lab all by myself using Bec's login, wandering aimlessly or going to Mike's Taxation law lecture. Although I was advised not to go to the lecture I figured why not? So I went and although I did sudoku the whole time, it made sense and I learnt some things about taxation law. Bec was thoroughly unimpressed with me. After looking for Mel we decided to go get some Italian hot chocolate a little way away. it was cheap and tasty but my stirer stood up in it without help so it was kinda thick and filling, but so good!!! It was the consistancy of a yogo, but even better!!!
Mike then had homework to do (that he should have done earlier) so he did not join Bec and I for Thai food, but Steve did. It was a short walk off campus, but we managed to get there before the lunch time rush for nice, cheap and tasty thai food.
Feeling rather bloated as none of us finished our meal we wandered back to campus towards the lecture halls from the morning for Public Meeting which is the Evangelical Unions regular sermon series basically. It was very interesting and I saw people I know which was cool. I was shocked at how many people were taking notes too. I'm not sure why they were as I'm sure they don't all take notes when they go to church on Sunday's so maybe it was just the uni atmosphere and the habit of taking notes on a lecture hall. There was afternoon tea after this and both Mike and Steve had other places to be so they left a short time into the afternoon tea.
Bec and I then went to meet Dave before Bec's Social Psych lecture (I think that is what it was) and I was warned that I'd better like her lecture more than Mike's, but Bec's lecturer was boring so he was hard to listen to. Luckily for me though, I understood what he was talking about and got the basic principal.
It was then home time. The fun was winding down. Time to walk back to the station and stand on the train (the LATE train) all the way to our stop. There was opportunity to sit, but y the time there was enough space for us both we were so close to home it seemed silly to take up seats.
So other than some sore toes from newish shoes, I had a great time. If I have half the amount of fun or understand even half the amount of stuff at TAFE (if I get in) then I'll be happy.
Today was great, thanks Bec and Mike especially for entertaining me and thank you Steve for coming to lunch with Bec and I. It was lovely.
Til my next adventure!!!
